Get A Second Opinion

Getting a second opinion can help patients get better information about a diagnosis, treatment and overall care.
But knowing when to do that isn't always clear. According to an article in the September, 2004 issue of the Mayo Clinic Women's HealthSource, you may want to consider a second opinion when:

  1. Your diagnosis isn't clear.
  2. You have a rare, serious, chronic or life-threatening condition.
  3. Your current treatment isn't working.
  4. Your doctor suggests a procedure that's risky, expensive or experimental.
  5. Your doctor suggests surgery.
Even if the second opinion is similar to what the first doctor told you, it can be valuable, especially if you have doubts about a diagnosis or treatment. Before you seek a second opinion, find out if your health insurance will cover the cost and then talk to your doctor, who can forward your medical records. Share the second-opinion information with your primary doctor.

Use Your Intuition
Try an alternative. Do some research. Don't let someone take all the power and responsibility. It is your life and health. What does your heart tell you to do? What will the short and long term ramifications of your decision be? Can you change your mind? Will the approach you choose be reversible? We are happy to offer another opinion. Ask us.

What Are We Waiting For?
If we wait for our health to fail before taking appropriate lifestyle measures that would enhance our health, we often find ourselves in a position of vulnerability. We live in a society where we love to give away our personal power to others and then we wonder why we feel drained all the time. This is not conducive to healing. Having a doctor proclaim how many months you have left isn't either. Start making healthy lifestyle decisions to grow your health today.

An Interesting Fact
Your body is made up of 20% water, your brain 70% and your blood 80%. You use and lose about 8 cups of water daily. This is why it is recommended that you drink at least 8 cups of water or other liquids daily.
